Out with the old….

And in with the new!

While the old grill doesn’t look that bad, the entire interior (including the burner, flame guard, and grate) had almost completely rusted through. In fact, flames were shooting out the sides and bottom last time we fired it up (pun intended). We looked at just buying replacement parts but they were going to cost nearly as much as new grill. So off to the store we went.
We ended up with a Char-Broil TRU-Infrared grill from Lowes using a handful of giftcards we had laying around. In order to fit it in our car, we needed to buy it disassembled, unpack the original box and then repack everything in the back seat of the car because the original box itself didn’t fit. It turned out to be quite the process but in the end it all came together smoothly.
Jennie headed out to the store for some fresh NY Strip steaks while I did my afternoon workout. After my 2 hour/20 minute bike/run brick, we fired up the grills and threw them on. The verdict?
Holy AWESOMENESS! They turned out perfect! They were the juiciest, tenderest steaks I have ever grilled.
Yes, I am holding my Kindle while I grilled. I was at 96% of my book – The Book Thief – and wanted to finish it up.
Now one of just my the meat.

The steaks were good enough alone to make a meal, but we decided to add some veggies and carbs to the mix.

Alright, now how many of you are motivated to get out and grill this weekend????

We grille at least once a week
I love grilling.
Very curious the taste of the infrared cooking grilles. Personally I wanted to buy one but we won our stainless steel Tim the TOOLMAN Taylor version of our grille LOL. So we never had to buy one.
Now, assembling grilles are a pain in the ass. Took me something like 2 hours to put ours together and it was not machined properly so our doors are not flush… which drives me nuts. Oh well, it was free haha.
Nice sear marks on the steaks too, perfection!

Looks great. I can’t recall the last time I grilled. I had an outdoor kitchen installed and then went veggie so the use of the grill got less and less. I only used charcoal so the thought of waiting 30 min to get it ready and then cook sounded absurd to me when I could eat the veggies raw.
Enjoy the summer with that bad boy!

You’re a straight up grill master! Nice work! I hear ya on breaking the grill down, putting it in the backseat of a car, and then having to put it back together at home. I don’t know why they don’t have some still in a box at Lowes. I had to put Josh’s in the back of our Civic, and it totally scratched some of the tint off the windows. I was a little pissed, but it was for Josh, so I took one for the team.
Way to multitask with the reading and grilling!

Weekend griller? We grill at least 3x a week. It’s what summer time is all about!
How is the infrared grill versus traditional flame?

Do you know how to share books on the Kindle? If so, let me know and I can send the Abe Lincoln book over.

Kevin,
Good on ya`, that grill looks awesome. I have a bit of experience with the outside of a grill looking great and the inside being rusted to dust. Looks like you got a perfect grill for you two, and seems that you’re learning the hot-spots real quick!
Nothing better than a steak dinner after a long work-out! Keep it up!
