If this works, this post should go live while I am in Madison prepping for race day.
665 days before I turn 30.
The Training
- 160 – Days Training (Taper Excluded) – March 28th – September 4th
- 323 Total Workouts
- 118 Runs for 668 Miles (or the 26.2 mile distance 25 times)
- 93 Bike Rides for 3,263 Miles (or the 112 mile distance 29 times)
- 86 Swims for 219,000 yards (124.33 miles) (or the 2.4 mile distance 54 times)
- 26 Strength/Yoga workouts
The Nutrition
- 5 – Canisters of Powerbar Perform consumed
- 5 – Boxes of Gu Chomps Consumed
- 15lb – Weight lost (170lb – 155lb)
- ~100oz – Pop consumed. The little bit consumed was mainly as recovery drink or mixed with JD.
The Rides and Races
- 7 – Rides over 100 miles
- 3 – Rides over 112 miles
- 3 – Triathlon Races (Grand Rapids Triathlon, Johan Trifest, Steelhead 70.3)
- 5 – Other Races (Calvin Spring Classic 5k, Glass City Half Marathon, Tulip Time Run, River Bank Run, Siren Chase 5k)
- 4 – PRs (Glass City Half Marathon, Grand Rapids Triathlon: Half IM, Johan Trifest: Olympic, Siren Chase 5k)
- 3 – Bike Tours (Ride Around Kent County, Holland Hundred, MOST Tour)
- 155 Miles – Longest Bike Ride (Ride Around Kent County)
Mental Status
- 1 – Mental Breakdowns
- 1 – Number of Ironman Nightmares. I dreamt that they gave me wrist band 555 despite being registered as 1072. Basically no one understood the gravity of the problem. I was told that because the athlete who had number 1072 “looked sort of like me” it wouldn’t be a problem.

Registered today and was lucky enough to get #1072. However, if #555 is faster than me, you can track him/her instead and pretend it is me. haha
This has gotten real. My complacency is gone and I am amped up!

You are going to rock the hell out of this IM!!!! I will be thinking of you and sending all sorts of “get ‘er done” vibes! LOL!
I loved that most of the pop consumed was with JD. LOL! Also, that nightmare is so hilarious. Could you even imagine?!?!?
Alright go light it up out there!!! Will be tracking you like a stalker!

Coke is so stupid. If I want a Coca Cola, I’ll say I want a Coke. I don’t want to ask for a Coke and then get asked “what flavor”. With Coke being HQ-ed in Atlanta that has always intrigued me as the word for POP in the south.
Oh, and I brought my orange shirt with me.
Not to race in, but I’ll probably do a warmup run in it.
Your fist? Seriously? It’s a stretch.

ANIMAL!!!
Ok, your dream: the “who gives a shit” attitude from everyone else in your dream? That is EXACTLY what happened to me in my nightmares. No one else understood the importance of what was going wrong!!! And that right there just shows how important this race is to you. Don’t worry, they WONT screw up your bib #!

I agree with Jon…ANIMAL! You’re a stud, and one day I want to be like you! Maybe it’ll happen for me before I turn 30! I can’t believe how many times you’ve actually done the different distances for an IRONMAN. Actually, I would love to copy your training schedule, but I don’t know if I’d be as loyal to it as you have been. You stuck with the plan and gave it your whole heart. Only 1 breakdown isn’t too bad at all, and if I remember correctly, it was for like 2 hours and you bounced back. I wish so badly that I could be there to support you this weekend, but I’ll do it from afar. Go, Kevin, Go!!!!!

Maybe??? There is no maybe!!! You got this. You kicked butt at Steelhead, you can totally do a full IM! IMFL or IMKY maybe?? I’d say to do the new Michigan Iron, but since you are bailing on the Midwest…. haha j/k!
I’d be happy to send you a copy of the training schedule. I can send you a PDF when I get home. If I forget and you don’t get it next week, just remind me.

I prefer “borrow”. At least that is what I did
(from who, I can’t remember). I can’t claim credit for the idea though.
Wow was it windy today. Thankfully there isn’t wind like today forecasted.
How much ice cream have you eaten so far????
