Wiki Wiki Wednesday

I have been doing my swims this week at a different pool as my regular pool is closed for spring break.  It is a little bit further away, but it is a great alternative.  The only thing I don’t like about it is that it is poorly lit so it seems drearier than it should.

One of my buddies, Rob, joined me for the early swim on Monday.  Major props to him for getting up at 5:30AM on his spring break as a teacher.  We’ll be meeting up again on Friday at a more reasonable hour.  It is nice to have someone to push me at the pool – keeps me honest.

I know that I am getting up to early these days when Bailey looks at me, groans, puts his head back down and falls back asleep.  Haha.  If you remember, the reason I started the early swim was because of his small bladder and the fact that he needed to be taken out in the morning.  Apparently his bladder has grown and now he just wants to sleep.

I had a headache all day yesterday, my off day.  Tried taking Excedrin (I hate taking medication), but that didn’t help.  I eventually did yoga and then joined Jennie for her run and the headache instantly went away.  I should have just gone for a run in the morning and I would have been a lot more productive.

I am attempting to give up pop (soda) during training.  I may splurge for special occasions (like taco or pizza night), but so far I have been pop free since March 27th.  This is probably the longest I have gone without pop since I gave it up for a year in college.  With my headache yesterday and the fact that I was exhausted, I almost relapsed.  MattyO talked me down by reminding me that “pop = evil” and I took a 15 min (turned 30 minute) power nap instead.

The Village Cone Shop opens today.  Yikes.  Soft serve ice cream within walking distance.  Could be trouble.

Work is starting to get crazy.  We are doing a full redesign of our product and all of the preliminary work is wrapping up.  Now it is time for the real work to begin.

I’m really looking forward to GC, but more specifically, the awesome people we are going to meet up with there; MattyO & Heather, Colleen & Tom, and BDD.  Big thanks in advance to BDD for being the official Race Director (he will dispute this title, but just ignore him).

I picked up my P2 from the bike shop after dropping it off yesterday.  When I dropped it off, they estimated 2-3 days for it to be ready.  I got a call about 5 hours later that it was done.  Grand Rapids Bike Company is the best!

Stay tuned for the outdoor debut of the P2 either this week or early next week depending on the weather.  It finally has a name too! So stay tuned.

On the topic of the weather, I’m done talking about.  No more complaining. I am taking the high road with the hopes that if I ignore her (mother nature), maybe she’ll go away.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend, especially Jon and Jeff racing Galveston 70.3!

Update: I totally forgot that Matt @ Go Smitty Go and Annie (Jeff’s wife) @ Retail Runner are also racing this weekend! Sorry for leaving you guys out! Good luck!

Thanks for reading!

Your training day does start early…5:30am! But I think it’s awesome that you just stay motivated and push on through. Bailey can suck it up and pee when you wake up. If you can go swim, the least he can do is his business on your schedule!

    I’m pretty excited to hear P2’s name…

I totally forgot to give you a shout out for your race this weekend!!!! Sorry!!! I updated the post to include you. With your training, you are going to tear it up!

      Just to keep you interested, the P2’s name is B _ _ _ _ R _ _ _. HAHA. I can’t give you everything – gotta have some element of suspense. 🙂

I used to hate the 5am swims but now they are my favorite workouts of the week Something great about putting 3000+ meters in before most of the world is even out of bed.

Bet you are dying to get the new ride outside. You guys could always move to TX, 300+ days of sunshine per year!

Thanks for the well wishes, going to be a fun weekend – especially since I have taken vacation days on Fri and Mon!

  3. Jon

I have never had a dog that wasn’t just DYING to get outside to do its business. Bailey must think you are nuts! haha!

So you are meeting BDD this weekend? Get an “air” picture of him and post it…aka, a picture of your arm around nothing, just to keep the myth alive.

    Good luck this weekend!

We are definitely going to have some fun with the picture taking. We have lots of good ideas. I’m not sure what the time frame is for your BDD profile post, but maybe we’ll have one or two for you to include.

Safe travels and good luck this weekend!

if wiki means fast shouldn’t these posts be shorter? 😉

ice cream stores close? depressing. it is totally acceptable to eat ice cream in the middle of a blizzard.

i am SODA free since 2003 – you can do it.

    1. Ironman By Thirty (Kevin)

No one is forcing you to read it 😛 haha

Wiki means quick. And they are quick posts for me because they are all mini thoughts that I have compiled during the week. Things that don’t warrant a full post. Basically, I just jot them down in a draft post and then on Wednesday I can just hit publish. Quick for me, not for you. Deal with it 🙂

Well, maybe I can go POP free. I’m totally SODA free though – never had that crap before.

    a – I thought this was a bike race

b – my accounts were hacked

seriously, why would I plan a running event?

  6. Maria

Kevin, you should already know my feelings on this subject, but maybe I should share them again.

Ice cream is NEVER a problem…ESPECIALLY if it’s within walking distance!! I’m telling ya, if Ben and Jerry’s had a tri team, I’d be the captain!

  7. Krista@CommitmentisLiberating

Good luck with giving up soda!! I don’t drink much soda, but I’m a big coffee drinker. I’ve considered switching to decaf, but I don’t think I could give it up all together. I love the taste and the routine…

Enjoy your first outdoor P2 ride! Can’t wait to hear the name! I’m still thinking about a good name for my Slice!

  8. Matt Oravec

haha Jon that was a good one, plenty of those will be taken!

Yeah, frank and sophie do the same when I get on the bike, they are like what the heck is wrong with you!

Hey I will get you all the info on our place this weekend. We are heading up Friday night, didn’t know when you were planning on heading up and if you wanted to meet at the expo and follow us over or what not. Its about an hr away or so…

    Hi Kevin,

I just wanted to tell you I gave up pop in January of 2007 and that was actually the first step in my now-healthy lifestyle choice. I gave it up cold turkey after my sister offered me some juice she got for free, and said, “here- you drink this…you’ll drink anything.” I realized she was insinuating that I treated my body like a garbage can. That day I decided to never have another pop and I haven’t since. I do, however, still get my caffeine fix from black coffee and unsweetened tea. I totally get headaches on mornings sans-caffeine. 🙁 Good luck at Glass city. Is it this weekend or next weekend? Where are you swimming- Forest Hills?

  10. Nitmos

See, I can’t poop when I’m away from my home stool. Glad you can still swim at a different pool.

  11. Colleen Kingery

We’re looking forward to next week as well… should be a good time! 🙂

  12. Mandy

What a crew!! I wish I could join in on the fun!

LOVE that your Bailey does that. My Bailey does that – I get up early and try to convince him to go out, he just looks at me like, “I am sleeping, leave me alone” and puts his head back down.

  13. Derek

Hows the no soda thing going here at the end of the week?
    keep it going
I gave it up 15 months ago
    love not being on it!
after two weeks you’ll be great

  14. Kristin

Soda is pretty terrible! The only time you should drink it is mid-ride if you feel you might bonk. Otherwise be proud you gave it up. The sugar content is out of control, just think of all the food you can eat instead! 🙂
