Bike Porn

Draw the shades, turn the lights down low, and turn on some Barry White, it’s time for some bike porn…

First a quick backstory.  Santa preordered the P2 for me at Christmas.

IMG_0531

Well, Santa’s elves must have gotten a lot of orders because it took nearly 2 months for my LBS to get one in stock.  I emailed them on Friday to check on the status of my order and they had just gotten mine in stock and were in the process of assembling it!  Woohoo!  They even managed to squeeze me in today for the final fit and pickup.  When I got there, I was talking to the sales guy and asked how many P2’s they were able to get in their shipment.  His answer: 1.  Mine.  I got the only one!

Love at first sight… (just like my beautiful wife*).

Getting the fit done.  It actually took a bit longer than planned because it came with a different aero bar than anticipated.  The first generation of 2011 P2’s came with the same aero bars as the P1.  However, the second generation got upgraded – a good thing.  However, because of this, the bars had to be cut to length and then the cables had to be run and bars taped.  After getting that all taken care of Bryan at Grand Rapids Bicycle helped me dial in the fit.

And now for the pictures you have been waiting for…

I couldn’t resist and had to hop on for my first ride.  I did an hour practicing switching gears and getting a feel for it.

OMG.  So freaking awesome.  It is so comfortable and such a smooth ride.  I can’t wait to take this baby out on the road – after all the road salt washes away of course.

My “old” bike looked awfully jealous as I broke in the new one.  Don’t worry Green Lightning, you’ll still get plenty of miles logged this season.

As for the new bike, he/she/it is still nameless.  If you have any ideas feel free to share.

Finally, I may be in the market for a new pair of bike shoes.  I either need to get a second pair of shoes or a new set of pedals so that both bikes use the same cleats.  I am leaning towards new shoes so that I can get an actual triathlon cycling shoe rather than the road shoe I have now that have 3 separate Velcro straps.  So, I’m looking for recommendations.  What kind of cycling shoes do you have?  Are you happy with them?  How to they work for flying transitions onto the bike out of T1?

Thanks for reading! Stay tuned for a separate post about mine and Jennie’s 5k this morning and a general update.

*After this bike, I need all the brownie points I can get.  It isn’t a lie though.

Very, very nice tri bike!! It looks good on you and you look good on it! As for shoes, i have a one thick strap Louie G’s and love them. Got a great deal on them on ebay. Congrats on finally getting the new ride…it is gonna be a great tri season!

Sweet Baby Jesus is that sexy!!!!

Your Fuji isn’t going to be touch again dude.

Damn nice ride! Congrats and that wife of yours has excellent taste!

    1. Ironman By Thirty (Kevin)

      “Sweet Baby Jesus” – LOL!

What do you mean the Fuji isn’t going to be touched again? Do you really think I am taking this baby out in the rain?? haha :) The Fuji has just gotten demoted to dirty work status.

You are damn right she has good taste! She picked me after all. :)

PS: Your wife is giving Jennie ideas on how to get things (like shoes) out having to play “second fiddle” to the bikes. Thanks for that. I should send you the bill.

Very nice! She’s a beauty. Very jealous.

Kevin! That’s so hot!!!!! Man, I think you got it at the right time. If you’d gotten it at Christmas, then you’d have wanted to ride it in the snow. Now, it seems like the snows gone, at least for now, so you can go for a ride. Congratulations! I’m super happy for you.

I think the two pairs of shoes is the way to go…and tri shoes at that.

    Good luck.

    MATT

P.S. Is that the Steelhead jersey you’re wearing in the pics? AWESOME!

    1. Ironman By Thirty (Kevin)

Yeah, well I want to ride it outside now too! And if you guys got half the snow we did, there isn’t a chance of that happening anytime soon. So, I’m stuck on the trainer for at least another month if not more.

Yes, that is last year’s Steelhead jersey. I love it. We’ll have to try and meetup before or after (or during) the race this year.

WOW. That is a SWEET ride!! I have 1 pair of shoes, thick strap tri ones. Sugoi? Yeah. I can’t spell. But love them. I got them last year and used them on my roadie too.

Seriously, have you named her(?) yet?

    1. Ironman By Thirty (Kevin)

Sugoi is the worst brand name ever! If I have to Google it every time I want to type it to check the spelling, something needs to change :)

I was hoping to use the same shoes on both bikes, but the pedals I ordered for the new bike use a different cleat. I guess there is difference between Look-style and Look-compatible. Whoops! So, now I either have to do another set of pedals to have the same pedals on both bikes or a second pair of shoes. The Mrs. was even behind the idea of new shoes because she thought my current ones were getting old. Can’t argue with that!

No name yet! I haven’t had an inspiration yet. I am leaning towards an “it” name rather than “her” name. I don’t think Jennie would be too keen on the idea of me going out for a ride on {insert girl’s name here}. Can’t say I blame her. :)

As a wife who plays second fiddle to the bike of the house, I hope your attempt at getting brownie points worked. I always get a new pair of shoes to make up for the jealousy :)

    1. Ironman By Thirty (Kevin)

Jennie had a good chuckle at your comment :) I think the attempt for brownie points worked.

BTW – Wouldn’t your comment be more accurate as playing second fiddle to the BIKES of the house?? :)

  7. Jennifer

OooOOOoooOO very nice! I know you are excited to get out on the road! Scottie has LG tri shoes and loves them, I am going back and forth on upgrading mine…he does the flying mount stuff…I don’t get that fancy :)

  8. Jon

HOly mother of AWESOME!!! Congrats Kevin! She is sweeeeeeet looking. The black is just BADASS! Worth the wait? Get some ZIPP 808’s on there and we will think you are a fighter pilot. Oh my god that would be damn sexy!

I have Shimano SPD tri shoes. They have one giant velcro strap and are meant to be ridden sockless. Super easy to get in and out of.

Even though we basically have the same exact frame (maybe a different fork?) I am freaking jealous of the paint scheme!!!

Welcome to the Cervelo Family. This won’t be the last Cervelo you purchase :)

    1. Ironman By Thirty (Kevin)

It is one hell of a paint scheme isn’t it?? I like it because it deviates from the previous paint jobs. It seems like the last ?3 years? kept the same pattern and just switched from blue to gray to red.

I’m got my eye on the Shimano TR31’s currently, but haven’t really found anything (online at least) that has really impressed me.

Zipp 808’s would be awesome! However, I still need to figure out the shoes, hydration, and a bike computer first. I love the X-Lab system because it integrates with the Cervelo seat post, but don’t know if I can pull the plug on the price tag. I also need a second bike computer because the one I have now is a basic Cateye that is a pain to move from one bike to another.

“This won’t be the last Cervelo you purchase” – The Mrs. might disagree with this :) haha

  9. CouplaHounds

VERY nice ride! And most importantly, it looks like a great fit too!

My tri shoes are carbon soled Louis Garneau’s … they fit great, breathe well, and the one strap makes for a few seconds saving during T-time (and even more if you avoid a fumble with one of the roadie style 3 strap designs). Enjoy that bike!!

  10. Maria

    It’s so pretty! **silently sobbing**
I just can’t keep my eyes off of it!

    1. Ironman By Thirty (Kevin)

Alright, shows over! Stop drooling :)

Don’t you have some studying you should be doing?? Or ice cream that needs eating?? :)

  11. lindsay

mail me your old one, duh. it will be in good hands! you can keep the aero bars.

    1. Ironman By Thirty (Kevin)

You were supposed to pick it up when you were in Michigan. Oh well. Your loss! :) Besides, if I send the old bike to you, what I am supposed to ride in rainy weather? You can’t expect me to ride this beauty in anything but perfect weather.

  12. Matt Oravec

wow wow wow wow wow! That is AWESOME!

Wish I could splurge :( Smurf and I are gonna get really cozy this year with all the miles haha.

Keep me posted on your shoes. I wanted to upgrade my shoes as well man!!!

    ENJOY !!!!!!!!!

  13. Derek

    Nice ride!!!

  14. Scott

    DROOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!

    Seriously a sweet ride

No you can take the clip on aerobars off the roadie and have a staple of bikes.
