I’m Back!!!

Miss me??  Even know I was gone?? I didn’t think so.  Probably because I didn’t even let you know I was leaving.  So, surprise!

Anyways, I have been on a lovely 10 day vacation with Jennie to the Hawaiian paradise.  The vacation was our present to ourselves to both celebrate our 5 year anniversary (which was actually in July) and to take the big honeymoon we never took 5 years ago.

While we were there, I ran the Honolulu Marathon (race report forthcoming), but other than that, I was on a complete training sabbatical – 7 days with no training whatsoever.  This is the longest I have gone without swimming, biking, or running in at least 5 years.  While it was a much needed rest, I am itching to get back into the groove.

While on vacation, I worked on draft posts but couldn’t publish them because I didn’t have a way to get the photos off the cameras.  So, over the next couple of days I will be publishing all of the wonderful details.  Warning: There will be little to no actual training/triathlon topics covered in the posts other than the Honolulu Marathon race report, so no complaining (*cough* Jon *cough*).

Finally, as you can probably guess, I am super behind on reading all of your blogs. I tried to catch up a bit on the flight home, but as I was offline, I could only read the posts and couldn’t do any commenting.  I’m off to read a bit more tonight but I have a feeling that I am going to fighting an uphill battle to make up for missing a week and a half of posts.

Welcome back! Hope you guys had a wonderful time! One of my wife’s friends ran in the Honolulu marathon too. She was the short blonde girl with black shorts – maybe you saw here? (kidding)

Did you have to shovel your way into the house when you got back?

    1. Ironman By Thirty (Kevin)

Actually Jeff, I might have saw her. Most of the field was of Japanese/Asian decent (over 60%), so my blue eyes and her blonde hair probably stuck out like a sore thumb! haha 🙂

The snow wasn’t too bad when we got home. Only about 2 inches, but it was the icy crap that half melted and then refroze as ice.

Aww..that’s awesome that you went on a vacation! It must have been beautiful there! I can’t wait to hear about the marathon. I’ve always wanted to do the Kauai marathon in August…maybe some day.

I knew you had gone somewhere. You mentioned being gone for two weeks to some unknown destination.

Awesome that you went to Hawaii! Don’t mind me, post away on your experience there! haha! I LOVE Hawaii!

Did you hit up any other islands? Did you notice the Pineapple tastes different because it is so fresh?

Nice job on ANOTHER marathon! A friend of mine did that race once. He literally flew in, did the marathon the next day, and flew out that afternoon. Talk about race soreness!!!

We just stuck to Oahu. We honestly didn’t have time for any other islands – we were busy every day without moving around. We figure that if and when we go back, we’ll plan a trip for a different island.

Surprisingly, we weren’t all the impressed by the pineapple. We went to the Dole plantation and it was just “eh”. It wasn’t nearly as good as we expected.

The marathon was brutal – 80* and 100% fumidity. I can’t imagine flying in specifically for it and out that afternoon. I have a draft of the race report but I think it needs some minor editing so that it doesn’t come off as the complete bitchfest it currently is. haha

well i had forgotten all about it. but once this popped up i said ‘oh yeah, they must’ve gone on that belated h-moon’.

c’mon. if i can catch up on 2 weeks worth of missed posts surely you can do 10 days. hah. skim the ones from 8+ days ago and comment if something sticks out. otherwise i just skim until i’m only a day or two behind. i’m typically a little behind anyway.

Ok ok… I’ll do my best. I actually have read a lot of posts but most of it was disconnected so I couldn’t comment at the time. It will more be trying to figure out which posts I had a comment for and what I was going to say. Now I at least have to read all of your posts 😉

Welcome back! I love Hawaii – we went for our honeymoon 2 years ago and are always talking about how to get back there!

  7. Mandy

Welcome home, sounds like a great vacation!!

  8. Morgan

How awesome!!! Can’t wait to catch all the posts and race recap! You are a sneaky little blogger!!!

  9. Viper

Nice score on the vacation. Cheers to your belated anniversary. Don’t bother trying to catch up on blogs, it’s an impossible task. Mahalo!

  10. Regina

My coach, who lives on Oahu, did that race too. I love Hawaii. We got engaged on Kauai. Hmmmm….I do have a 10 year anniversary next year and we didn’t make our honeymoon (9/11).

You guys look rested and happy!! Happy belated anniversary!

  11. Jennifer

A marathon while on vacation!? I LIKE it! Can’t wait to read about the trip!

You didnt miss much on my end. I am still being fat and lazy. Yep…all ten days you were away. And 10 before that. And for at least 10 more.

Did you at least drive the Kona course?

I am jealous, to say the least

    1. Ironman By Thirty (Kevin)

Sadly, no Kona. We stayed on Oahu the whole time and never made it to the big island.

I just watched Kona on the DVR today – fricken awesome. I sort of wish we had time to hop over there now. Oh well, I’ll see it when I qualify. (There I go dreaming again)
