You gotta love compliments from strangers. And today I got one.
I had a brick scheduled today* – 1 hour ride, 30 minute run. As I started my ride, I noticed another biker about 50 yards behind me. When a car pulled out in front of me, I had to slam on my brakes and the fellow cyclist caught up. We chatted for a bit. He was doing an easy ride to keep his legs loose for the 24 Hour Challenge he is doing this weekend. The 24 Hour Challenge is a 24 hour endurance ride to log as many miles as you can. The winners log around 450 miles in 24 hours!! We traded the lead for two laps around Reeds Lake. As he turned off, we thanked each other for the push and he told me that I was a, “strong rider”. What he doesn’t know is that after he turned off, I was huffing puffing like crazy. It was still a good confidence boost.
I ended up finishing the bike ride with 4 loops around the lake averaging 19.5mph.
After the ride, I threw on my Brooks and knocked out a 4 miles at a slightly sub-8 pace. As if that wasn’t enough, I accompanied Jennie on a 2 mile run and then mowed the lawn.
Jennie’s 5k training is going great. In fact, the other day, as we were passing yard full of kids, the dad, wanting to make sure the kids didn’t run into the sidewalk said to them all, “Let’s wait until the runners pass.” After we passed, I gave Jennie a nudge, “Did you hear that? You were just called a runner!!” She laughed and wanted to go back and correct them.
And now, I need to relax. Tomorrow calls for a 1:40 run and 2500 yards in the pool. Good thing I have the day off.
*Technically I had a 3:15 bike ride scheduled, but I decided to swap today’s and Saturday’s training
