Friday Funny and Taper Solutions

I’ll get to the Friday Funny in a second.  Or, if you are impatient, you can skip my babbling and just scroll down.

This past week I found two great ways to deal with a pre-race taper; a good book and power tools.  The good book in question was “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”.  I started it earlier this week and couldn’t put it down.  I finished it this morning and can’t wait to pick up the next one in the series, “The Girl Who Played With Fire”.  If you like crime novels, I highly recommend it.

On to the second way to deal with taper jitters: power tools.  I finally started to work on building a bar area for our basement.  This has been on the to-do list since we finished our basement 3 years ago.  The main roadblock has been figuring out the best way to build one.  Here is what we have now:

A hodgepodge of old shelf crammed with booze, a wine rack, and mini fridge.
This space needs help!

Today, I finally worked out a plan.  I started off playing with Google’s Sketchup, but soon realized I was wasting my time and resorted back to the tried and true pencil and paper method.  Sketchup is a really cool program but I have never been good with graphic design.  I’ll leave the cool graphic design up to people like Jon.

Here is the plan.  Shelves for storing beer glasses I have collected, wine bottle storage,
room for the mini fridge, and a cabinet and drawer for storage.

So, this afternoon I moved my workshop from the basement to the great outdoors.  The weather kept playing games on me though.  It started to rain twice; just long enough for me to have to move everything into the garage before it let up. Ugh!

Working outside is much better than the basement.  All the fun without
the mess and cleanup.

I got the first part, the hardest part, done this afternoon.  The other cabinet will be much more straight forward.  The rest will have to wait until next week.  I am very glad that it is finally coming together.  I’ll finally be able to check it off of my list.

The wine rack.  Painting this is not going to be fun.  In hindsight, I should
have pre-painted everything, but I wasn’t quite sure how it was all going
to go together.

Friday Funny

Ok, and now the part you have been waiting for, the Friday Funny.  As I searched (Thank you Google Image Search) for different ideas on how to build the bar, I searched for “wine rack” and this came back as a result.  Ladies and gentlemen I give you the WineRack:

Per the website, the WineRack allows you to: “Take a bottle of wine, a mixed drink or even a fifth of your favorite hard stuff to the movies, concerts, ball games, even PTA meetings. Sporting a rack that will turn heads and serving a beverage that will have guys standing in line for a sip of your secret stash!”

The WineRack features:

  • Very comfortable sports bra available in versatile black.
  • Polyurethane bladder holds over 750ml or 25oz. of your favorite beverage.
  • Drinking tube long enough to route as you wish.
  • Easy to use on/off valve to control the flow.
  • Design optimized for smaller cup sizes

I guess this is the women’s version of a beer hat.

Stay classy! And good luck to everyone racing this weekend!
