I finally signed up for the Grand Rapids Marathon. It is this weekend. And, no, I am not crazy. I have been training for the marathon for the past couple months, but have been reluctant to sign up. This is a local race, so no traveling or hotel required which made it easier to hold off on registering. In the past, I have had the most fun and been most relaxed at races I didn’t have to sign up for months in advance. So, here’s to hoping I have the same results on Sunday.
Part of my decision came from motivation from fellow bloggers; both directly and indirectly. From the direct “Do the marathon!” to reading about others’ experiences it pushed me to go for it. I was inspired by one blogger who trained for the Twin Cities Marathon with a long run of 9 miles coupled with CrossFit training. Her result was a 3:31 finish – very impressive!
As for training, I am horrible at tapering, but I am going to try and take it a bit easier this week. I will still get out every day and do something whether it is a short run, bike or swim. It keeps me sane. I simply can’t just sit around and do nothing. Knock on wood, but my stomach has been incident free for the past couple of days, so hopefully that keeps up for this weekend.
