Well, summer is finally fully upon us – well not officially – but at least weather wise. Today was the first hot and humid day of the year. I got home from my run and my shorts were drenched, I didn’t even bother wearing a shirt today. Yes, that’s right ladies, the gun (more like water pistol) show was open today. I felt pretty good on my run. Eight and half miles in about an hour and 10 minutes. Not super fast, but I felt comfortable the entire way. Again, I realized half way through that I should have brought my water bottle, but hind sight is 20/20. I almost need a check list to go out for a run these days. Garmin? Check. Heart rate monitor? Check. iPod? Check. Sunglasses? Check. Water bottle? Check. Shorts? Shit, I knew I forgot something! I guess I would always fit in at the Bear Butte Running Camp:
So far, it has been a pretty good week of training. I felt a bit tired on my 20 mile bike ride yesterday, but I think part of it was that I felt hurried to get it done before dinner and my heart wasn’t quite in to it. On top of that, I wasn’t very creative with my route and did some of the same old boring loops. I’m going to try and change it up a bit on my 2 hour ride this weekend by heading out to the White Pine Trail. I haven’t quite figured out how to get to the trail yet on bike, but once there I can ride for quite a few flat miles.
As for my swim workouts, I lost my watch so I haven’t been able to take accurate times of my workouts. Worse than that, I have had to go back to counting my laps. With my watch, I would count 10 lengths, hit the split button on my watch and continue on. This way, I wouldn’t lose count because I was only counting to 10. And then even if I did lose count, it was fairly easy to see where I was at based on the split time. Anyways, besides not being able to time my workouts, they have gone very smoothly. Today was 2100 yards (roughly 1.2 miles) straight up. I finished in roughly 40 minutes which I was happy with as it gives me a good baseline for Steelhead.
